Keep the assessment on the ground
Do not climb onto a damaged roof or pull on a lodged limb. Keep clear of downed wires and unstable branches. If the building appears unsafe, keep people out of the affected space and contact emergency services for immediate hazards.
Record the impact and the symptoms
From a safe location, photograph the branch, visible damage, and any water entry. Note the time of impact and whether the leak began before or after it. A branch that has already fallen away can still leave damage that is hard to see from the yard.
Separate the tasks
Tree work, temporary weather protection, roof repair, and interior restoration are different scopes. When contacting a roofer, explain what remains on the roof and whether access is obstructed. Confirm which work is included and how the tasks will be coordinated.
Look under the obvious mark
The inspection may need to consider shingles, underlayment, and decking around the impact. A surface patch does not establish that the deck is sound. Ask which findings are confirmed and whether any concealed area needs further investigation.
